| Orland Park is a village located in southwest Cook County, in Orland Township, with an official 2000 census population of 51,077 and 2005 estimated population of 55,461. It was awarded the title of "45th Best Place to Live In America" by Money magazine in 2006 and is surrounded by other great communities inluding Homer Glen, Orland Hills, Tinley Park, Oak Forest, Palos Park and Palos Heights. Orland Park has three stops on Metra's SouthWest Service, which provides daily rail service between Manhattan, Illinois and Chicago. It is has access to major airporst including Chicago Midway International only 14 miles, and Chicao O'Hare Intil only 25 miles away.

EDUCATION The area is served by Orland Park School District 135 and has elementary schools including St. Michael School, Centennial Elementary, Center Elementary, Park Elementary, Prairie Elementary, High Point Elementary, Liberty Elementary, and Meadow Ridge Elementary, middle schools including Century Junior High School, Jerling Junior High School, and Orland Junior High School, and home to Carl Sandburg High School. Various options of post-secondary education is nearby with Moraine Valley Community College, Chicago State University and the University of Chicago.
RECREATION Orland Park's outdoor recreation consists of a 500-plus acre park system which includes Centennial Pool and the Grinding Edge Skate Park, as well as Centennial Park and the John Humphrey Sports Complex. Centennial Park is a 236 acre site which consists of ball and soccer fields and also includes a marina, path system, ice rink and sled hill. The Centennial Park Aquatics Center, located at 15600 West Avenue has a lazy river, body flume, drop slide, tube slides, platform jump, and zero depth pool with kiddie play structure and lap lanes. John Humphrey includes 20 acres of lighted softball, baseball, and football fields. If you like indoor recreation activities, The Franklin E. Loebe Recreation Center has an indoor playground, indoor walking track, wrestling and dance rooms, while The Village of Orland Park Sportsplex, located on 159th street includes open gyms and field, golf cages and "The Rock" a towering 35' rock climbing facility, with 10 ropes: 6 lead and 4 auto belays. If you like golfing, Orland Park is home to Silver Lake Country Club and White Mountain Golf Course, and if shopping is your main recreation activity, visit Orland Square Mall, the largest most upscale shopping mall in Chicago's south suburbs, as well as the recently renovated Orland Park Place.
